SICK AND SICK OF SNOW…

Friday, February 26th, 2010 | Author: carol

February has turned out to be one heck of a month!! I was excited about having my first visit with the scleroderma specialist in Albany, that turned out better than I hoped. He will be putting me on CellCept which will suppress my overactive immune system. This drug is usually  used  for transplants but works for those of us with autoimmune disease. I am hoping it will help slow the fibrosis in my lungs and keeping them from getting worse. Keep me in your prayers….

My daughter Kim, who knew I had this appointment in Albany, sent down the most beautiful hand bag that she made especially for me! I love it! and inside I found two issues of  ‘Art Doll’ magazine which is my favorite magazine in the world along with ‘Artful blogging’, both expensive , both worth every penny. Since we haven’t got together for our Christmas yet, she also sent some very nice outfits including sweaters that give you a nice pulled together look, I love you Kim!

After all this, I got SICK!  A terrible head and chest cold, thought I was going to die. The first week I took the Z-pack that they normally give out for this sort of thing, but it only had a mild effect on me. So, I managed to get myself to the doctors and hoped I wouldn’t catch anything else flouting around the waiting room. I didn’t think anyone could have so much mucus in their body and the coughing, it was horrible. I ended up with a much stronger antibiotic and  a nebulizer machine and a box of Albuterol  to inhale. My daughter Dawn called to see how I was doing, she felt so bad she couldn’t be with me to help me feel better (imagine, she just had a baby). The next day, I received a package from California from an organic company filled with organic made chicken  and minestrone soups and three large blueberry muffins, what a surprise! and they were delicious! I have the best kids!!!!  Love you Dawn, it hit the spot.

SOON AFTER, A NORTH EASTERN HITS! this means more SNOW, 30 inches on top of the foot of snow already on the ground. I am so snowed out! I bet Samantha, cleaning off the car’s and hubby plowing will be glad to see the snow go too…

PRAY FOR SPRING!!!!

IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR JERRY CAT…

Friday, February 12th, 2010 | Author: carol

Jerry was 15 years old, and the oldest of our cats. He came to us through our daughter Dawn, who found him and his brother living in the basement of a Veterinary’s office. They had been taken in by the vet when the cat’s owner, an elderly women, had died. When they came to us they were both five years old and very over weight, so we named them after the fattening ice cream, “Ben and Jerry”.

After a few weeks of the cat’s learning to explore the outdoors, we lost Jerry to the woods. I thought for sure he would never find his way out. Everyday we would go into the woods and call for him and after three tearful and agonizing days, we heard a meowing coming from the woods. He made it home in good shape, except for some fur missing in the form of a circle on his back. He never took off again and always stayed close to the house. His brother on the other hand, was a hunter and liked to roam, one day a few years back, he never returned after going out after a rain storm.

Within that time, my other daughter came to live with us after moving from Boston and she brought along her cat named Max, who is pictured above with Jerry. Max was an apartment dweller and needed Jerry to show him how to stay safe while living so close to the woods. As our little tribe of cats began to grow, Jerry always was the father figure, the head cat, the teacher. Jerry did love his cat naps though, you could find him almost anywhere napping….

When Miss Kitty arrived, Jerry became her surrogate father while she spent the winter indoors.

We will miss you so much, but you will always live on in our memories and in our hearts, I am sure Ben has already found you in heaven.
