ABOUT ME
I was born in Brooklyn sixty years ago. I’ve enjoyed a fun and active childhood, I think the moment I picked up a crayon I knew I was going to love creating. Coloring books became my favorite thing to have, and drawing on the sidewalks with chalk was fun too. As I was growing up, my mom introduced me to fiber arts, learning to crochet and knit, later I learned to macramé. My dad loved taking pictures and had an interest in different 35mm cameras, soon photography became my second love too. I think once you start creating with different mediums, you begin to grow and find your niche, which art form gives you the most pleasure? In my case, and I am sure with others too, there can be several mediums used to satisfy the artist inside. In Junior High School (back in my day), they offered Home Economic Classes. I took sewing, which gave me a good basic idea of the fundamentals of how to sew and how to use a sewing machine, I am so glad I did!
After I got married and started having children, I began to do more crafts and enjoyed sewing for the kids. I tried new art forms to keep the artist within happy and became self taught in many of the mediums I explored. My inspiration has always been my family, and my surroundings, and still is today. Living on a mountain is not only inspirational but has become spiritual as well. You would not believe how many talented artisans dwell in these mountains and valleys. I loved growing up in the City, but now I could not imagine living anywhere else.
With a growing family, I began to garden. I planned many vegetable gardens over the years, but what I did learn was, I really had an interest in Herbs. I started making face and hand lotions, teas, and remedies. About five years ago, I came across a book called “The Medicine Wheel Garden” by E. Barrie Kavasch, creating sacred Space for healing, celebration and tranquility. This was right up my ally! It gave information on the uses of Native American healing practices and how to form a circular medicine wheel garden. My garden is included and shown on my blog.
I think, as you grow older, your inner child comes out. I don’t mind, because then I know I will be using a lot more imagination and things will be more colorful. I am looking forward to making that quilt, and creating fairy, herbal and dream dolls to keep and give away. For those of us who love creating, it surly is a magical and enchanted world we live in. I hope to share my thoughts and projects with others and to learn from them as well. So, stop by often and share a thought or two.
